Part 1 of Book Review of (Two ways of light: Kabbalah and Vedanta by James N. Judd)
There is a problem in Noahidism. Noahides are supposed to follow the Noahide Laws without creating a new religion for themselves. Noahidism is notoriously void of holidays and much of spirituality. Many people are converting to Noahidism but feel empty without any festivals or mysticism. The Rabbis are not supposed to make up things to keep the Noahides happy, but they are doing it, such as creating things like holy days to celebrate the birth of Adam and Eve, but this is not ideal. In comes Hinduism. Noahides are not supposed to add or subtract from the Torah and Talmud, but Hinduism is older than the Torah and Talmud, so it is neither an addition nor a subtraction, on top of the fact that it has been declared sufficiently monotheistic by Rabbis to comply with the Noahide Laws. Hinduism can be embraced by Noahides without breaking the prohibition of creating a new religion (like Christianity and Islam). However, the Jews don't want people jumping ship and just becoming Hindus, so they are creating a system where Jewish mysticism and Hindu mysticism are blended into a hybrid teaching so that non-Jews can have spirituality without leaving the Noahide fold. The book Two Ways of Light: Kabbalah and Vedanta by James N. Judd seeks to blend Jewish Kabbalah and Hindu Vedanta under the rubric of non-duality. We are studying this book to learn more about the coming global Judeo-Hindu spirituality, which will be used to dress up the bones of Noahidism. Below is a summary of the book's introductions:
- There is unity in diversity.
- In the past East and West spirituality was studied as being inimical to one another, this book seeks to synthesize them.
- Modern society is plagued by duality.
- There is only ONE truth behind the universe.
- The same god is sought in all religions.
- There are many different versions of god because humans are limited and we can all only see only single parts of the complex infinite god, we are seeing different sections of the same god.
- Different religions are different roads that lead to the same point.
- Sri Ramakrishna found truth in all the versions of Hinduism.
- James N. Judd summarizes and harmonizes both Kabbalah and Vedanta.
- Kabbalah and Vedanta are unique spiritual systems.
- At first Kabbalah and Vedanta seem to contradict but they do carry the same message.
